Whatever makes you feel tired, but not to tired. I would see how long it takes me before I get tired, then try to improve that every other day (dont forget your body does need a break)

Yes swimming laps is an option for a cardio workout. It has many benefits since not only will it get your heart rate up it is also a very good muscle workout aswell.

A good beginner swim workout would be the standard swim try to do as many laps as you can in the pool. It is recommended to try to swim about 400m-1200m.

You should always to a series of sets and never just a quick workout. Have short breaths in between and do as many reps as you can without stopping. Around 3 sets are recommended.
