The myotatic reflex is provoked by activation of muscle spindles in a stretched muscle. These muscle spindles are sensory receptors that detect changes in muscle length and help regulate muscle contraction and body position. The muscle with the highest density of muscle spindles is typically the extraocular muscles, which control eye movement.
