In the beginning nothing really, they didn't have a cure for it and vaccines weren't invented at the time, some people decided to rub the grinded up scabs of previous survivors into a sort of ointment and then smear it on themselves, not sure if it worked or not though I think there never was a cure for the black death, infact we still don't know what type of disease it was (Bacteria,Virus,Parasite etc etc) but we do know that it spread extremely fast. It covered two continents (Asia,Europe) in a very short period of time,

It started in Asia in Mongolia where it was spread through the mongol army (they were invading multiple country's at the time) the mongols even used the disease in bio-warfare they catapulted the dead mongol plague victims over the enemy walls to infect them. Scientists today are still scared it might come back.
