It is very similar. Very few people can tolerate Oxycodone when they are allergic to Codeine. The basis of most prescription pain relievers is a derivative of Codeine.
Unfortunately, I am severely allergic to Codeine, and the only pain reliever I am able to tolerate is Demerol, because it is 100% synthetic. I cannot even take over-the-counter Imodium, as it is made with Codeine.
They have tried Morphine, Vicodin, Lortab, all of the "-odones", all with the same results. I assume each person is different, if you feel nauseous with any of these medications, notify your Doctor, as they may be able to supplement the medication with an anti-nausea medication. Good Luck.

Codeine and Oxycodone are from the same family "OPIATES". Your urine test will show up as positive for opiates. The UA has no way to distinguish whether it is codeine or Oxycodone.

No, oxycodone does not have codeine in it. This drug is in Percocet (and others), which is a bit stronger than codeine. I don't know what prescription you (may) have, but often, the Percocet will also have aspirin or acetominophen (Tylenol) in it as well. This is called a "compound" drug because it has two different medications in it.

I believe you mean "Oxycodone" which is the generic name for Percocet or Tylox. My doctors know I am allergic to codeine; but subscribe Oxycodone, which has codeine, but so does percocet. I am waiting for pharmacist to call me know to let me know if it has the same amount. Percocet does not bother my stomach but Oxycodone does.

Molecularly speaking, codeine and oxycodone are very similar. Codeine lacks the hydroxy group at the 14- position, and has a 7-8 double bond. Also, the 6- position of codeine contains an alcohol group instead of a carbonyl.
