No, Colombus was actually looking for Asia/The Far East (specifically India) since he knew the earth was a globe and thought that if he sailed westwards far enough he would get to the far east from Europe. However, being that there was a continent that Europeans did not know existed (ie America), he inevitably bumped into America first and mistakenly called the native people there "indians"
