In many parts of Nazi-occupied Europe, yes. In 1939-41 in Nazi-occupied Poland (and later also in Lithuania, Latvia, Belarus and Ukraine) the Jews were herded into ghettos by the Nazis. These were often not in established Jewish districts but dilapidated areas. The authorities were ordered by Heydrich to make sure that ghettos were close to rail transport ... Conditions in the ghettos were appalling and got steadily worse. The inhabitants were dependent on the Nazis for food, water and medication and the Nazis made sure that ghettos were hopelessly overcrowded. From late 1941 on regular deportations to extermination camps began. Well known ghettos include those in Warsaw, Lodz, Bialystock, Krakow and later, Lemberg (Lviv, Lvov). In many big cities in Germany, the Jews were forced to live in designated Jewish apartment blocks, which had to have a huge J over all entrances.

Before they were sent to the extermination camps, many Jews were forced to live in ghettos. They have insufficient food and no medication and usually no photographic film, either. In the Lodz Ghetto, where the supremo collaborated (to some extent, anyway) they did take some photos. These were hidden when the ghetto was finally dissolved in 1944, but have recently been found.
