No, there were no celebrities for the simple reason that there was no media with which to gain celebrity: no television, no radio, no newspapers, no magazines, no posters, no films, no telephones. The vast majority of people could not read, so even if newspapers or magazines had been around they would have been useful only as kindling.

In order for a person to be widely-known (which is really all that "celebrity" means), their name and deeds had to be spoken about and passed on from one person to another - and the only situation where that could happen was in Church, by the priest.

Saints and Bible characters would be widely known for that reason, but they do not count as "celebrities" in the modern sense.
