The boundaries of the Roman Empire changed significantly during its expansion. At its height the empire extended from the south up to the river Rhine in southern Holland and south-eastern Germany and an area of southern-central Germany east of this river in Western Europe; the Danube River and the Transylvania area north of this river in south-eastern Europe; Turkey, Cyprus, northern Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan in Asia; Egypt and the coastal part of the rest of North Africa.

The Romans conquered England and Wales and pushed into southern Scotland twice. However, on both occasions they withdrew back into England. Hadrian's Wall was the boundary of the empire here.

Later it became difficult to defend the empire and the Roman fortifications in southern-central Germany were abandoned and the Transylvania area (Dacia) was given up.

What boundaries on the two maps are not likely to change due to political influence Why?

Boundaries that are typically less likely to change due to political influence are natural boundaries, such as rivers, mountains, and coastlines. These geographical features are fixed and provide clear, physical separations between regions, making them more stable than political boundaries that can shift due to negotiations, conflicts, or governance changes. Additionally, long-established historical boundaries often remain intact, as altering them can lead to significant social and political unrest.

How can you tell the difference between physical and political boundaries?

Physical boundaries are natural features like mountains or rivers that separate regions, whereas political boundaries are man-made lines denoting the borders of countries or territories established by governments. Physical boundaries are determined by nature, while political boundaries are decided by human agreement and often subject to change.
