In many cases, extremely poorly. The reasons in Australia are not all that clear as to why the soldiers got treated with such disregard, though it may have something to do with the fact that Vietnam was considered a policing action rather than a declared war. It had an unreality to it as a "war". Real... but not real. The governments didnt make it real clear to the ordinary people what it was all about and neither did the media express itself very well on the subject either. It was also a rebellious age. Youth was getting into dark music, drugs and protesting against everything that was Christian and the status quo. People simply didnt want to know about Vietnam so the vets got shifted to the side and mostly neglected. Its seems to be happening again re: Iraq vets. Selfish society doesnt care all that much... so the young soldiers suffer.
Over 300,000 US sevicemen were wounded in Vietnam.

He was treated well and there was a celebration too.
They got their welcome home march in Sydney of 1987, 15 years after the end of the Vietnam war. The Black Vietnam War Veterans was treated like dogs. Most of them could not get a job and end up in prison with life sentence.

"Monument to living veterans" honors living veterans, several others such as "Korean war monument, viet nam war monument, and WWII monument" are more specific, however don't have the name "veteran" in their title. I got a test and the right answer is actually "Vietnam Veterans Memorial" I swear this is right!! -someone else then the person above
