This was a belief sparked by Harold Camping, a religious leader at Family Radio. Keep in mind that a few months back, they were saying the date was March 21st, 2011. They amended this date after March 21st came and went. According to this group, the world will end October 11, 2011. Apparently those few true Christians were taken up into the Rapture and we who remain behind will suffer tribulation, whatever that is, until October. Or perhaps not.
Answer: No, it wasn't and was a mere hoax to confuse many who are anxious for Judgement Day so that they are listening to man and not our Creator, and to further set doubt in the minds of those who believe there will be no day of judgment at all.
The Bible specifically says that no one knows when the end will come. It also says there will be many false prophets.
Some points:
Matthew 24:36 However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.
Mark 13:32 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Acts 1:7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
Matthew 24:33 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. Harold Camping has selectively-chosen and therefore wrongly-interpreted Scripture. Even if any nominated date is particularly stormy, there will be absolutely no doubt whatsoever when Judgement Day arrives
Matt 24 (v.27) For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Luke 17 (v.20) And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Luke 17 (v.21) Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. Luke 17 (v.22) And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. Luke 17 (v.23) And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. Luke 17 (v.24) For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.Luke 17 (v.25) But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
Rev 16 (v.16) And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. Rev 16 (v.17) And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. Rev 16 (v.18) And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. Rev 16 (v.19) And the great city [ie Jerusalem] was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. Rev 16 (v.20) And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. Rev 16 (v.21) And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent [this is about 100lbs!] : and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. Final_Answer:">Final Answer: What Harold Camping did in December of 2011 and what will occur in December of 2012 is an example of what occurs when people are have not studied to show themselves learned in the word of our Father.
Consider what is written:
There are actually 2 judgment days written in Biblical texts (Revelation 20 identifies both), neither occurred on 21 May 2011.
They will occur after all prophecy events have been fulfilled.
This answer does not proclaim to cover all prophecy in this small space but here are some red letter things to learn and keep focused upon.
1) There are 3 iterations of this earth (2nd Peter Chapter 3), we are in the 2nd
2) The state of Israel fulfilled prophecy (Jeremiah 24 and the Generation of the Fig Matthew 24 and Mark 13)
3) Daniel 8,11,7 provide the lead in events to the very end of this earth iteration. The Iran deal with the US and Europe will lead to Daniel 8 occurring
4) Daniel 8 - Persia (Iran) will move to destroy Javan (most likely the state of Israel)
5) Daniel 8 and 11 a king (from the West) will move against Persia to destroy it
6) Daniel 11 - The king of the West will go away and be replaced by 4 kingdoms (just as Alexanders Generals replaced him) ... Pay special attention to the king of the South (Historically Ptolemy) and the king of the North (Historically Seleucid)
7) These 4 kind oms will make up the 7 headed beast mentioned in Daniel 7, Revelation 13, and 17. They are a repeat of the 7 headed beast mentioned in Revelation 12.
7a-Lion - 1 head
7b-Bear - 1 head
7c-Leopard - 4 heads
7d-Dreadful Terrible - 1 head
8) All of the items Christ mentions in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 understanding the following
8a- Nation was defined from the Greek word Ethnos
8b- famine refers to Amos 8:11
8c- Troubles is actually translated from a Greek word meaning Sedition
Answer Since the Question was originally "Will the Rapture happen on May 21 2011?" and it is now 2015 as I write this, obviously the Rapture has not occurred, Accordingly, I have changed the question to omit the date. I believe the Rapture will occur simply because God said it would: it just hasn't happened yet.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 GNB [Good News Bible] (v.13) Our friends, we want you to know the truth about those who have died, so that you will not be sad, as are those who have no hope. (v.14) We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will take back with Jesus those who have died believing in him. (v.15) What we are teaching you now is the Lord's teaching: we who are alive on the day the Lord comes will not go ahead of those who have died. (v.16) There will be the shout of command, the archangel's voice, the sound of God's Trumpet, and the Lord himself will come down from heaven. Those who have died believing in Christ will rise to life first; (v.17) then we who are living at that time will be gathered up along with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. (v.18) So then, encourage one another with these words.
Two individuals have also been raptured in the past:
(1) Enoch
Genesis 5:24 GNB He spent his life in fellowship with God, and then he disappeared, because God took him away.
(2) Elijah
2 Kings 2:11 GNB They kept talking as they walked on; then suddenly a chariot of fire pulled by horses of fire came between them, and Elijah was taken up to heaven by a whirlwind.
Answer Added by rburke5786 (forgot to hit "Minor Edit): Also, If May 21st, 2011 was Judgment Day, none of us would be here right now.
absolutely NOT! happy May22nd
no it is not going to happen
No one really knows. The Mayan calendar stops on December 21, 2012, which (according to the Mayans) technically means everything starts over...but I guess we will just have to find out for ourselves!
No this is based on some Mayan calendar. Rest assured the world will not end in 2012. I hope this gave you some relief. However God being the creator has shown in the bible it will occur on may 21 2011 . remember the parable of the fig tree. Israel did become a nation on may 14 1948. God gave them 7 days to believe on Jesus as in the parable. remember when Jesus returned to the fig tree and it produces no fruit.hence the parable. On may 21 1948 this generation shall not pass before these things come to pass. on may 21 1988 the abominations of desolations will be set up. exactly 23 years later as the book of Daniel references and we come to may 21 2011
No. When you wake up on May 22, you can be assured that the world and everyone in it will still be here. Every so often, someone makes a prediction about a date that is supposed to be "the end of the world." They haven't gotten it right yet. :)The world (according to the Bible) will NOT end on May 21, 2011, or any other self-proclaimed "Judgement Day." Mark 13:32 states word for word that no man knows the day or the hour of Judgement, not even Jesus. Only God the Father knows this, so with this in mind it is impossible for the world to end with our knowing in advance. It will just happen, without warning.
June 21, 1947 fell on a Saturday.
If it was we missed it! Despite what false prophets want people to think, no one will ever know.
Just read the bible!
Nothing. The world is still here, the Age did not end and Jesus did not return.
No.
apparently may 21, 2011. but the only problem is, some guy is making it up and advertising it all over the world to try and make money.
WWF Judgment Day - 2000 TV was released on: USA: 21 May 2000
10,227 days
Saturday May 21, 2011
Yes, on 6-9-2011. Just 19 short days after his prediction of judgment day of 5-21-2011.
21-12-12
The Bible does not specify a date for Judgment Day. Different interpretations and beliefs about the end times exist within Christianity, but setting specific dates goes against the teachings that emphasize being prepared for the unknown timing of such events.
Judgment Day - The Outer Limits - was created on 2000-01-21.
