The firebombing on Tokoyo on March 9-10, 1945 was the most destructive air raid in history.

On the night of March 9-10, 1945 335 B-29's dropped more than 1700 tons of incendiary explosives on Tokyo, destroying 16 square miles and killing more than 100,000 people. The death toll of this attack was greater than each of the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima individually (the immediate deaths), but not combined.
