5th Amendment
The 5th Amendment guarantees that a person does not have to testify against him or herself.
The fifth amendment merely states that you don't have to testify against yourself or someone else if you don't want to. "I plead the fifth."
The 5th Amendment of the Constitution protects you from self-incrimination, by guaranteeing you the right to never have to testify against yourself.
The fifth amendment applies to all levels of government. It gives all people in America basic legal rights, such as not having to testify against oneself and not being imprisoned or having a home taken away without trial.
They interpreted them as a religious punishment and as way for people to get rid of others, the people accused as witches were often accused because of some religious thing they did or because someone didn't like them and if they got enough people to testify against the accused then the accused would die.

There is NO amendment that says you CANNOT testify against yourself. There is an amendment that says that you cannot be FORCED to testify against yourself. A BIG difference! The 5th Amendment to the US Constitution protects you against self incrimination unless you WILLINGLY waive that right.
