In 1529, the Protestant Reformation saw significant developments, including the Diet of Speyer where the German princes protested against the Catholic Church's attempts to suppress the spread of Protestantism. This led to the formulation of the Protestation at Speyer, a document that asserted the right of individual states within the Holy Roman Empire to determine their own religious practices. Additionally, the Marburg Colloquy took place in 1529, a meeting between Martin Luther and Swiss reformer Ulrich Zwingli to discuss their theological differences and attempt to find common ground.

The word Protestant is derived from the Latin protestari, meaning publicly declare, which refers to the letter of protestation by Lutheran princes against the decision of the Diet of Speyer in 1529, which reaffirmed the edict of the Diet of Worms in 1521, banning Luther's documents. Since that time, the term Protestantism or Protestant has been used in many different senses, often as a general term merely to signify that they are not Roman Catholics.
Martin Luther never visited England, though his famous 'Ninety Five Theses', written in 1517, and his other works, were printed and widely circulated across Europe, including England, certainly by 1519. England certainly experienced and was involved in what has been called the Protestant Reformation. The ' English Reformation' was a series of events, and probably the most significant being those which took place during what has beome known as the English parliament's 'Reformation Parliament' of 1529. However, poor Henry VII died in 1509, so he would have missed all of this!

First attest 1539, from Germanic or French protestant, from Latin protestantem (nominative form protestans), past particple of protestari. Originally used of Germanic princes and free cities who declared their dissent from the decision of the Diet of Speyer (1529) denouncing the (Catholic) Reformation. The word was taken up by the Lutherans in Germany (Swiss and French preferred Reformed). It became the general word for "adherents of the Reformation in Germany," then "member of any Western church outside the Roman communion;" a sense first attested in English in 1553.
