After her mother drowned off the coast of North Carolina in 1864, Little Rose continued to attend school at the Convents of the Sacred Heart in Paris (rue de Varenne) and London (Roehampton). She made her first communion on May 25, 1865 in Paris, and left the school there in 1866, after which she was enrolled in London. She came back to America about 1871 and married a West Pointer named William Penn Duvall (1847-1920), later a General in the Philippines. They had at least one child, (Mary) Lee Duvall, b. 1873, but were later separated and divorced. Little Rose is said in some places to have returned to France and lived in a convent; if she did, records of the RCSJ order show that it was not as a Madame of the Sacred Heart.

In 1894 Lee married a naval officer and architect from New York City named Louis Eugene Marié (1870-?). Lee and Louis lived in Richmond VA (1900 US Census), Annapolis, MD (1920 US Census), Island Heights, NJ in 1923 (passenger list), then in the Point Loma area of San Diego (1930 US Census), and finally in Philadelphia (1940 census). They had at least one son, Louis Jr., who went to Annapolis and was an engineer and USMC officer (1919-1945), finishing his career as Colonel.
