The Romans did not carry out irrigation projects for us. They did it for themselves. If there are areas which still benefit from them it is because subsequent peoples have continued maintaining and have further developed original Roman irrigation schemes. There ar econtemporary beneficiaries in areas where the Romans cleared malaria-infested marshes, or drained lakes where there was malaria. This is particularly so in some areas of Italy. The Romans were not particulrly innovative in the field of irrigation.
