Latino or Latin is a term use by North Americans to refer to south Americans. Whom they believe all speak languages derivative of Latin. This is not correct, Bahamas, Belize, Jamaica, Guyana, Surinam former colonies of England and Holland are in central and South America also. They speak Dutch and English, among other languages. Also the British and American Virgin Islands speak English. The population of the aforementioned are mostly descendants of black Africans.

It is also use by many Spanish speaking people, especially in the West coast of the US to self describe themselves. It's been used often by gangs like the Latin Kings of New York. It's usually use as a stereotype and with a tone of racial pride.

In a strict sense there is not such a thing. Latin is an ancient language still in use in Music Law and Science. The region in Italy where the city of Rome is, was at one time probably called Latnia. About 60 kilometers south of Rome close to the Mediterranean Sea is the City of Latina. So Latins or Latinos if any are around, would be the Italians or their descendants, and without a doubt the citizens of Latina. There has never been a Country, Nation, people or ethnicity that could have given rise to such a label. Is nothing more than a misnomer and a pretension, not correct and inaccurate. Latino is a word that means a man from a Latin (mostly Mexican) background.
