What sacrifices did Maya and Aztec offer their many gods?

The Mayans and Aztecs had a very similar method of sacrifice. Here is a brief description of it: The sacrifice would begin at the top of a temple pyramid. A few priests would put the sacrificial victim, who was painted blue, on top of a small "altar" and hold the victim there. Then another priest would take an obsidian knife and penetrate the victim's chest with it. That priest would then reach into the chest cavity and pull out the sacrificial victim's still beating heart. Another priest then smeared the blood of the heart onto a ceremonial idol which represented the God to which the sacrifice had been made. After this, the corpse of the victim was thrown all the way down the steps of the temple. Once it reached the bottom, priests of lower rank would skin the body and then wear it. They would then dance around, dressed in the skin, among all of the spectators. Sometimes the dead body was even eaten by the nobles.

*This was the most common method of sacrifice of the Mayans and the Aztecs, but there were many different forms of sacrifice that they used as well.
