So the size the division was reduced and one regiment was removed. So the 3rd Infantry Regiment could have been part of a Division before then. No, it is not. Berdan's Sharpshooters units, that is 1st and 2nd Regiment , were set up of volunteers coming from many Union State. They were employed as independent units but mostly attached to the Third Corps of the Army of the Potomac, especially during the Battle of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg Campaign.
