The royal family tried to escape from the Palace (flight to Varrennes) in the spring of 1792 and flee to Austria to try and regain control of France. They were captured miles from the border in a town of Varrennes. January 1793 King Louis XVI was executed by the guillotine, October 1793 Marie Antoinette met the same fate as her husband. She never returned to Versailles after she was seized by the sans-culotte.
