The obvious result of the October Revolution was the end of the Romanov Dynasty in Russia. As the Bolshevik government of Lenin cemented its hold on the remains of the failed Russian Empire, other European countries sought to prevent the spread of the "Marxist" ideas to their lands. This backlash in no small way helped the rise of Fascist leaders in the decades that followed.

The isolation of the newly formed U.S.S.R. resulted in the soviet-styled planned economy that would characterize those countries behind the Iron Curtain after the Second World War. These Communist countries would witness the intrusion of government into every aspect of their lives as everyone sank into the "proletariat" to be in turn ruled by a new aristocracy - the Communist Party.

The Bolsheviks won, bringing an end to the Kerensky regime, and Russia was ruled by a communist Dictatorship until it finally collapsed in 1989.

The Bolshevik Revolution which accomplished the above was not the only revolution in Russia in 1917. The first one was called the February Revolution (the Bolshevik Revolution is referred to as the October Revolution). The February Revolution resulted in the overthrow of the Tsar and his regime ending 300 years of Romanov dynasty rule. With the overthrow of that government , the Provisional Government was created in expectation of the seating of a Constituent Assembly to write a new constitution. Prince Grigori Lvov headed the Provisional Government for three months then Alexander Kerensky took over. Three months later the Bolshevik Revolution overthrew Kerensky and the PG.
