The NUMBER ONE fear by US Citizens was being "inducted into the military." That in itself was the primary cause for the protests. NO US CITIZEN looked forward to being dragged away from his family (physically by US Marshals, etc.), then having his hair shaved off to the skull (the hair cut was called the "old equalizer", because NOW EVERYONE WAS THE SAME!). Then being yelled at by complete strangers (DI's-Drill Sergeants) who did NOT USE POLITICALLY CORRECT LANGUAGE! On "some" occassions having a "fist" or "boot" appropiately used against some portion of your body. In those days, men were driven hard! The "stockade" (military jail) awaited those men that refused to cooperate & graduate (from boot camp). After BOOT CAMP (Basic Combat Infantrymen's Training), some men looked forward to going to Vietnam. For those men that completed "Bayonet Training" in the US Army during the 1960's, they will remember the words ingrained into their minds; at the command of "short thrust and hold! MOVE!" They will remember what the "spirit of the bayonet" is. After being trained to kill (the spirit of the bayonet), we wanted to go to Vietnam; that's what Uncle Sam was training and paying us to do. It was GETTING TO THIS POINT that caused FEAR in the potential draftee!
Napalm bombs were used in the Vietnam War and killed a lot of people.
The NUMBER ONE reason for protesting the war was THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO VIETNAM (THE DRAFT!).
