They settled there only at first because The Nile River was known as a blessing and supported them with water. also being used as a natural barier from attacks. although later on the Egyptian settlments began to move outward toward other areas along the Nile and through out Africa :)

Many people live along the Nile River. They live along the Nile for transportation, water supply, and other resources, and religious statements.
Actually, they didn't live on the Nile river. They really just lived in palaces that were built by laborers. When they died, they were put in pyramids to RIP. (Rest in Peace)

Quite simply because of the alternative - desert and extreme hardships or live by the Nile the source of water.
The fact that they did live near the Nile suggests very strongly that that is where they wanted to live.
