Communism had mass appeal to many especially in the Third World. One of the reasons for this was that many nations had for years ruled by Europeans who had treated the native people harshly as part of it's teachings Communism rejects Imperialism and colonization by foreign powers this had enormous appeal. In Europe itself many poor people believed that Communism could make their lives better and it's out of this hopelessness that many joined Communist parties. Communism also had support in nations ruled by right-wing dictators such as those in Latin America, who banned trade unions and oversaw great gaps in income inequality that lead to mass unrest of which communism was a part of.
