It created a vast ommon market where trade thrived and created prosperity before the empire was affected by repeated invasions from outside. It promoted the spread of Roman civilisation in large parts of Europe, in North Africa and in part of Western Asia. It also led to an amalgamation between the Roman and the Greek civilisations which led to Greco-Roman art and culture.
