∙ 12y agoRome was divided into the east and west side because the Roman government decided that the land was to big to be ruled by one person. So, they had four people running it, two on each side. The people were called Augusi and Ceasars. The Augusti led the land, and when they retired, the Ceasars took over. Then, the new Augusti appointed their own Ceasars. This was known as the Tetrarchy.
