You can typically cut up to 1 inch off the bottom of a hollow core door. Be sure to measure carefully and use the appropriate tools to ensure a clean and precise cut.
A standard hollow core door only has about 1 inch of wood at the bottom. 3/4 is about the most you can cut.
To trim a hollow core door, measure and mark where you want to cut, then use a circular saw to carefully cut along the marked line. Sand the edges to smooth them out, and reattach any hardware that was removed before cutting. Be sure to wear safety goggles and follow all manufacturer instructions.
Short answer, make it fit. Depends on how much it is off and where. If in width and less than an inch, hang it on the hinge side and scribe it to fit the lock side. If more than an inch, measure the opening and take equal amounts off of each side. This is for solid wood doors only. Hollow core or chip filled core only have an inch wide piece of wood on the edges and can only be cut down about 1/2 inch on the sides. If too tall, the bottom of a solid wood can be cut as much as 3 inches depending on how it is made. A hollow core or chip core has about a 3 inch solid wood on the ends and can be cut 1 1/2 on either end.
you can probably only cut off an inch before you hit the hollow part. If you need to cut it shorter, you can if you save the bottom piece and reuse the piece of wood in the bottom. Trim off the ends and the venier cover, glue it, and clamp in over night. You will also have to drill the pivot hole deeper.
I have replaced the bottom portion of the wooden core on several metal doors. I usually gently remove the wood with a putty knife. Sometimes I need to cut the core, which is only a few inches wide, in half to remove it completely. I did this by drilling two holes in it to gain access with a reciprocating saw then cutting it in half. You must then replace the core. I suggest priming any raw wood you can get to inside of the door and replacing it with primed dry pressure treated pine. Good luck.
yes you can. but you only have approx. 1" filler on all sides you can probably take about 1/4" off on each side safely. if you need more than that you will have to remove or replace the filler strip . A hollow core door actually has a honeycomb of corrugated cardboard inside it to keep it rigid. You can only take about an 1/8 off of either vertical side before the wood gets too thin to hold a hinge screw. You can cut the height down but it's a pain. You'll have to take the piece you've cut off, cut the plywood skin and the ends off it and then mash the cardboard honeycomb back far enough so you can glue the bottom back into it.
it says cut the door, so go to the door then use cut with a Pokemon that knows cut and the door will open.
The door was cut into the painting in 1652. At the time, the painting was unrecognizable, and the door has since been bricked up. Exactly who cut the door is not known.
you have a cut wire in the drivers side door wiring, they get opened & closed so much that wires get cut, open the black boot in the door jam & you'll find your cut wire.
Pearl: cut p and you wil get earl which is at your door.
You can't really or rather you probably shouldn't. They are hollow and the bottom cut edge will rust no matter what you do to it. Normally, you would make the opening taller. If you had to, cut it with an abrasive blade in a circular saw if possible. This will give you a more even cut. I would either cut a board to fit inside the door and glue it in place, or clamp a 2x4 on either side across the face of the door, making sure thickness of the door was the same in the middle and put spray foam insulation in the bottom. Up at least 6 inches. Trim off the excess that comes out after it has hardened. This should seal the door and glue the two faces together.
