They married because Henry VII got her and prince Arthur to marry so that England would get more money however Arthur died only a few days after the marriage Henry did not want to lose the money so he got Henry VIII to marry her. However in order for this to happen Henry VII had to give the pope a indulgence payment.
Henry VIII wanted to marry Catherine of Aragon. After the death of Arthur Henry VII did not want Catherine or the money she brought to leave England so she was engaged to marry Henry. Henry VII however realized that Henry could contract a better marriage so there were talks that he would be engaged to one of Catherine's neices who was the daughter of Joanna of Castile and her husband Phillip the son of the Holy Roman Emperor.
Catherine of Aragon came to England to become the wife of Arthur, the son of Henry VII. They were married only a short time before he died however. For the next 8 years Catherine lived in England, but she was in limbo with not much money. When Henry VII died in 1509 Henry VII died and Arthur's brother Henry VIII became King. Shortly afterward they got married and lived together until 1532. For the next four years Catherine lived apart from Henry and their daughter Mary. In January of 1536 she died of Cancer.

Henry VII had only recently become King of England by defeating Richard III, and was intent on establishing the Tudor Dynasty. Key to this was to win recognition (and therefore legitimacy) from the other royal families on the Continent by arranging a marriage between his oldest son and heir (Arthur) to an eligible princess of a prominent power. In this case, that was Spain. Henry also drove a hard bargain for a substantial dowry to accompany her. Arthur and Catherine were married, but shortly after, Arthur died (popularly attributed to "consumption"). This put the marriage alliance with Spain in jeopardy, but even worse for Henry VII was that it meant that he might have to return the dowry! His solution to both questions was to marry Catherine to his second son, the future Henry VIII. As marriage to the deceased older brother's wife was then considered incestuous, Henry VII successfully petitioned the Pope for dispensation, claiming that, although married to Catherine, Arthur had never consummated the marriage.Years later, when Henry VIII sought to divorce Catherine, his argument to Rome was that Arthur had indeed consummated the marriage before his death, and that Catherine's subsequent re-marriage to Henry was incestuous, and should be annulled.M. Henry VIII broke with Papal authority in order to be able to divorce Catherine of Aragon the widow of his brother. Cardinal Wolsey had been unable to persuade the Pope to grant Henry a divorce. He proclaimed himself head of the Church of England, dissolved the monastries and divorced Catherine, all in 1532. Henry needed money as he had been bankrupt by spending so much in wars so when he was head o fchurch he sold off the monastries and their land to ricg people and took all the gold and silver ornaments for himself. this brought him money.
There were four main reasons that Henry VIII broke from Rome. These reasons were Power, Money, Religion and Love.Power: Henry was desperate for an heir and seeing as he had already got Anne Boleyn pregnant with possibly his male heir, then why should he stay with Catherine of Aragon? Without an heir then the Tudors rein on the throne would end, and Henry definitely didn't want that.Money: Catholic Churches at that time were filled with expensive ornaments, and if Henry could knock them down then he would have all the money value that these ornaments possessed, and seeing as Henry had already bankrupted the country TWICE, he really needed that money so he could carry on with his expensive hobbies, such as hunting or jousting.Religion: Henry was a strong Roman Catholic and didn't want to go against his religion by getting a divorce: he wasn't that rebellious, but as well as that and just as equally he wanted to get rid of Catherine of Aragon. Sneakily, he found a way to get a divorce without upsetting the Church.Love: Think about it. Catherine of Aragon was ugly, old, and despite anything else, couldn't have babies. Of course he wanted to get rid of her. And then came a younger, prettier woman who he had accidentally got pregnant. He wanted a divorce, as he was in love with Anne Boleyn. With these reasons combined, Henry VIII came to the conclusion that he would break from Rome, and create The Church of England.Lottie, 13
King Henry was married to Catherine of Aragon. He falls in love with Anne Boleyn and wants to marry her. He asks the pope to grant him a divorce, but the pope refuses because it was against the Catholic Church to get a divorce. After 7 years, Henry declares that the pope had no power over him and the pope excommunicates him. In 1534, Henry has parliament declare him the head of a new church, the Church of England, or the Anglican Church. This was a Protestant Church.
Henry VIII married so quickly after his accession because for several reasons. After the death of Prince Arthur Catherine of Aragon did not have the best life. Her father did not give her any money and neither would her father in law-several of her letters to her father have survived. Another reason why Henry married so quickly was because he had been in love with her for years.
Henry VIII defeated the French in 1513 at the Battle of the Spurs. His wife Catherine of Aragon , under Henry's command, defeated the Scottish King James VI at Flodden in 1513. Scotland tried to invade England in 1513 because they knew Henry was in France. The Scottish were defeated and James IV was killed, his blood stained coat was sent to Henry, by Catherine, as a gift. Henry is credited as one of the founders of the English navy. He invested a huge amount of money into securing England's naval power and ships such as The Mary Rose were constructed during this period.
No she was not. She had been married to Henry VIII for at least 21 years and had one live daughter with him and many more pregnancies. He saved her after by marrying her after his father died and it looked like she would be left in England with no family and almost no money and then he goes and deserts her for a commoner who was half her age.
AnswerHenry VII needed money urgently which he was not getting right now as his income was around 110,000 he thought of ways that he could make money. He later decided that he would break away from the Catholic Church and make the Protestant Church. But Henry knew it would be hard as it was very difficult for kings to control the church. The church was very powerful. It could make people scared and tell them they're going to hell.As well as getting money by breaking away from the church he also had another reason, he had a quarrel with pope Gregory because Henry wanted a divorce from Catherine of Aragon since she could not produce a male heir since she was too old and at that time they did not believe in divorce so his pledge was refused by pope Gregory.
