Japan had already established itself as one of the world's richest and productive countries by the time World War 1 started. After WW1 it continued to grow. As far as politics go, however, Japan only created their constitution in 1947 with a Bill of Rights very similar to that of the USA. Today, Japan is a high performing democracy.

The theme of Continuities by Walt Whitman is the idea of interconnectedness and continuity between past, present, and future experiences. Whitman emphasizes the cyclical and eternal nature of life, highlighting how everything is connected and persists through time.
Continuities from World War I to the present include the world becoming closer due to the evolution of communication and transportation, the effects of World War II, Imperialism's end, American culture domination, the Cold War, the Space Race, and advanced technology.

Early in the century, the ostensibly 2,000-year-old imperial government of China was toppled by a nationalist movement. After further decades of turmoil, China became controlled by a communist-socialist government, which has undergone a variety of changes and is still evolving at the present time.

The present tense of "change" is "changes."
