Because he didn't pray hard enough for the other.
A praying mantis has two long antennae on its head. They are used for the senses of touch and smell.
believe it or not, i actually asked myself the same question. so i conducted an experiment, and the praying mantis murdered the daddy long-legs, and briefly got a snack from it. i also tried 3 different kinds of spiders, centipedes, and earwigs. the praying mantis killed them all. hope this helps!
The name "praying mantis" is not a scientific name but a COMMON name. Scientific names are in latin and are used to organize animals into groups (look up taxonomy). If you wonder how the praying mantis got its common name all you have to do is look at one and see that the forelegs are in position similar to praying. The word "mantid" originates with the Greeks meaning prophet (who prayed often). So, praying mantis is redundant, it is like saying praying prayer. Also, look up the word science to reduce your ignorance.
Yes sometimes infact i got bit by one!!
In short, no, the praying mantis are not poisonous. They do have sharp spikes on their forelegs which they can use to strike with if harassed. For the most part, they are pretty safe to handle. If you notice them standing on their back legs and getting into a defensive position, then you know are they getting ready to strike.A pray mantis is not poisonous is used to catch them all the time and i never got a rash or anything like that.I think you mean a praying mantis, and not, they are not poisonous.

Praying Mantis's do have sharp hooks on their front legs. I doubt one could blind a dog. But perhaps, if the dog got too close, and nuzzled his eyeball up close, and the Mantis got him really good, some permanent damage could be done. Otherwise I HIGHLY doubt it. But don't let your dog eat the poor bug....XD
The praying mantis produces an egg pouch that it puts on a leaf somewhere so it would get about as pregnant as a hen that lays eggs.I just had a female lay her egg sack. it was really cool to watch. we knew when we found her on my door. She was moving real slow and her belly was dragging. She wouldn't hardly eat the crickets that we got for her now when I woke up this morning 10/30/10 she was making her egg sack in the aquarium that we had her in. It was really cool to see this. Now she is skinny and moving pretty fast.
It is quite normal. I have one.
Yes, I have one in a cage and i just saw it lay an egg sack. I'm expecting 100 little insect babies now...Yes, praying mantises lay eggs.
No reason why it couldn't... They're insectivores - and thus would eat any insect that got close enough for one to grab it. We have a relatively mild climate - and thus the insect would certainly survive in the wild here.
