The First Amendment to the Constitution which is a part of the Bill of Rights and which prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, infringing on the freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc. With the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment the First Amendment applies to the States and local governments.
