Talon Zipper was a company founded in 1893, originally as the Universal Fastener Company, in Chicago. They later moved to Hoboken, New Jersey, and finally to Meadville, Pennsylvania. It was in Meadville that the zipper as we know it was invented, until then they were producing hookless fasteners for boots and shoes. Here, the zipper was mass produced beginning in the 1920s.
The zipper was first made in 1851. The first zipper was created by Elias Howe and he was also the inventor of the sewing machine.

Yes, the zipper is patented. The first functional zipper was patented by Whitcomb Judson in 1893, and further improvements were made by Gideon Sundback, who received a patent for his design in 1917.
