Of course it depends on the age, size and riding level of the child but here is the rule of thumb:No really young horses. A green horse/green rider combo is bad news. I like a horse 10 and over for a child under 7 years. The best breeds are Quarter Horse or QH cross, Paint of Paint cross, Welsh or Welsh cross. (this will depend on the individual horse) Contrarary to popular belief, ponies don't always make the best kid's mount. Right size, wrong temperment. Ponies can be difficult. Good kid's horses are worth their weight in gold. Good Luck.
They are ok ponies, but Connemaras or icelandics are good for a child of young age.

Dartmoor Ponies are the best for children!
There are hundreds of breeds of horses.
Some of the most popular breeds of horses are thoroughbred, American saddlebred, racking horse, and quarterhorse. The most popular pony is a shetland pony. The Arabian horse is pretty popular aswell. Shetlands are quite popular and can be seen in a lot of riding schools as field companions for other horses / ponies and small children's riding ponies.
Welch ponies.
how many ponys are there in the world
Yes, they are breeds of horses that do not grow tall.
Two that come to mind are Shetland and Welsh.
There are several breeds which do well with children. The Abyssinian is said to be good with older children while the American shorthair should be good for all ages.
