Why is it necessary to open casing drains and drains on the steam line going to the turbine when a turbine is to be started?

To avoid slugging nozzles and blades inside the turbine with condensate on start-up; this can break these components from impact. The blades were designed to handle steam, not water.

What is HRH line in power plant?

The HRH line, or High-Rank Heat line, in a power plant refers to the pipeline that carries high-pressure, high-temperature steam from the steam generator or boiler to the turbine. This steam is used to drive the turbine for electricity generation. The HRH line is critical for efficient energy conversion and system performance, as it maintains the necessary conditions for optimal turbine operation. Proper insulation and maintenance of this line are essential to minimize heat loss and ensure safety.

What is balance piston line of Turbine?

it is used balance axial thrust on turbine rotor due to admitting of high pressure steam in to turbine. it basic purpose is to save thrust bearing.

What is balancing line in boiler?

The balancing line in a boiler refers to a specific operating point on a steam generation curve where the heat input from fuel combustion matches the heat output from steam generation. This line helps maintain efficiency and stability within the boiler system, ensuring that the steam pressure and temperature remain within desired limits. Properly managing the balancing line is crucial for optimizing performance and preventing issues such as overpressure or inefficient fuel use.

What is main steam stop valve?

Used in power generation. When steam turbine is on-line the Main Steam Stop Valve is fully open. When offline it is closed. Steam to turbine is controlled thru control valves after Main Steam Stop Valve

How do you control the control oil line vibrations in steam turbine?

If,clamp is not proper fitted in control oil line that time it may happen cause in control oil line pressure also more than main oil pump disch.

What are the objectives of line balancing?

The objectives of line balancing are to optimize the flow of work, reduce idle time, and increase efficiency in a production line. Balancing the line helps to evenly distribute workload among workstations, minimize bottlenecks, and improve overall productivity.

How does coal produce electricity?

Coal makes energy in 6 sorta simple steps. 1) The coal or natural gas is first burned for mainly thermal (or heat) energy. 2) That thermal energy is used to boil water and to produce steam. 3) That steam is then forced through a high pressure tube called a steam line. 4) The steam then pushes a turbine (which is very electrical and i don't know what goes on in there) 5) That turbine then produces electrical energy. 6) The electrical energy is transported to your home and then you use it for searching the internet on how coal makes energy! (how convenient!)

Why the water that is used to cool the reactor vessel of a nuclear power plant is kept separate from the water that is heated to produce steam for the turbine generators?

Not quite sure what you are referring to. In the reactor primary circuit, there are of course the main circulating feed pumps that transfer the reactor heat output to the steam raising units (PWR) or the turbine (BWR). In the event of a loss of the main power outlet line, the plant will safely shutdown, reactor and turbine/generator together, and these feed pumps will lose their electrical supply. But there is decay heat produced from the reactor and it must be kept cool to prevent fuel damage. Therefore emergency feed pumps are provided which can be run from back up diesel generators. In the PWR there is in addition the secondary loop which takes water from the turbine condenser and passes it through the steam raising units. Both types of reactor also have the turbine condenser cooling circuit which takes water from either a lake, river, or the ocean, or from air flow cooling towers, to condense the steam at the turbine back end.

What are the last 2 steps in an electrical power plant?

The last two steps are:The steam or gas spins the turbinesthe turbines then turns the electric generators producing elecricity

What is LRU in gas turbine engines?

What is the function of balancing line in a centrifugal pump or compressor?

The balancing line is a transmission line consisting of two conductors of the same type, that are grounded to the compressor's circuits and to the ground and helps keep external noise down.
