The Holocaust was not discovered, or truly realized until after the fall of Germany. (more over the capitulation of Germany) The camps were discovered a few at a time during the war, but the full grizzly meaning and impact the camps made wasn't fully realized until after the war.

Of course, the camps ended with the end of the Nazi Germany, but it wasn't the direct, or indirect cause of the war ending, it was a "tool" of war.
