Winston Churchill came to the US and spoke to the Congress. He basically begged them for their help to fight off the Nazis. The UK did not have enough resources to build planes, ships, etc. So the Congress voted to put the most effort into fighting off the Nazis and less effort (or rather troops and money) into fighting off the Japanese.

When the US arrived with their supplies and troops they were able to combine forces and plan for the invasion of Europe. They helped some in Africa too. So it was a turning point for the Brits because they wanted and needed help. Together they achieved victory. Mix some great brains and lots of firepower and you can defeat the worst of enemies. That is why the US entry into the European Theater of World War 2 was a turning point.
