The US believed Japan would continue to invade other countries for their oil. The US had placed an oil embargo on Japan because of the atrocities and invasion of Japan done by the Japanese. There were other conflicts too. The US thought Japan would attack the US at Midway or Philippines or elsewhere. They were foolish to put nearly the entire fleet of the US Navy in Hawaii. They should have left it in Long Island, San Diego, San Francisco, Oregon, Alaska and Washington while they were negotiating with the Japanese in Washington, DC. The worst part was that the Admiral of the Pacific Fleet knew there was problems with the US and the Japanese and he did little to have his men on guard of the fleet and airfields in Oahu, Hawaii. There was coded Japanese messages that went unheeded by the US Naval upper officers. So their belief that Japan would strike elsewhere if the oil embargo was not lifted was a serious, grievous error on the part of the Pentagon and the presidential cabinet.
the war would have happened, but it would have been way different (i believe) because japan was the one who started with it, not germany, so japan would have started a big war, but not as big as it was because of germany. and it would probably have ended before.

It would be the Axis [Germany, Italy, and Japan].

Total control of Asia. Many believe they would have aided Germany in a trans-oceanic invasion of the US someday, too.
That Japan would win.
Americans believed Japan would not attack on American soil because they thought Japan would not risk provoking the United States into entering World War II. Additionally, there was a belief that Japan's military capabilities were not strong enough to launch a successful attack on American territory.
Japan attacked the United States in World War II, hoping that they would be able to take over most of Asia. It didn't work.
I would believe at least 2 days after Japan surrendered because technology could not connect from the pacific islands to America \
