it was frist joined by two states in the south....................?

It was first joined by states in the Deep South.
Both sides collaborated on the Crittenden Compromise, presented to the newly-inaugurated Lincoln, who rejected it because it would have allowed some new slave-states. (Note: Lincoln was not demanding abolition.)

Meanwhile six more Southern states had joined South Carolina in what was now being called the Confederacy.

The first flashpoint was Fort Sumter, an island garrison in Charleston harbour. When Confederate artillery fired on Sumter, Lincoln retaliated by calling for 75,000 volunteer troops for the Union. Another four states joined the Confederacy, and the two sides were in place for the Civil War.
After South Carolina seceded in 1860, Florida had joined Georgia, Mississippi and Alabama.

The handwriting was on the wall; Abraham Lincoln was going to be elected and inaugurated as President of the USA and this would finally be the beginning of the end of slavery in the USA. South Carolina wanted to keep it's slaves more than being in the USA, so they seceded from the rest of the country.

They formed the Confederate States of America, recruited an army, and challenged the Union troops to evacuate the island-garrison at Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbour.

Lincoln's response was to call for volunteer troops, and this was taken as a declaration of war. The eight remaining slave-states (Upper South) were divided in their loyalties, but four of them voted to join the Confederacy, making eleven in all.
