If you mean a Harley-Davidson from 1995, you don't. The solenoid is an integral part of the starter. However, there are kits available to replace some of the solenoid parts.
Remove the starter. the solenoid is mounted on the starter.
I use a starter solenoid from a 1991 - 1995 Toyota Pickup on my 1998 FLHT Evo... and a fraction of the cost from Harley.
Harley Davidson is an individual brand all it's own. In 2000 Ford added a Harley Dividson edition to the Ford F series but Ford does not make the Harley motorcycle.
You could have a sticking solenoid on the starter, you could have a defective starter button, or your solenoid wires may be set up in a way that causes the current to ark between points when it's not supposed to.
how do i replace the bendix drive in my 85 harley fxrs
you would need a repair manual.
Harley Dividson blankets can be found at most Motorcycle and motorbike stores. Also department stores may have these covers in the sports department. Makes great gifts.
First check the battery, then check the starter solenoid by taking a peice of wire and touching the 12v pos. battery cable to the top of the starter where it goes in. It says in the manual to take it to a dealer because you have to take the starter apart to get to the solenoid... But i think it is the solenoid.... i had the same problem with my 1998 sportster XL 1200s. I took mine to a dealer.
Remove the cables from the 1995 Harley-Davidson Road Tank motorcycle starter. Remove the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter. The starter turns the engine over so it can start.
Disconnect battery negative terminal, drain primary chaincase, remove outer chaincase cover, remove jackshaft end screw, disconnect positive terminal & solenoid terminal from starter, remove two allenhead starter mounting bolts, lift out starter. To reinstall starter reverse procedure.
That depends on the year of the bike. On '65 through '88 FLH models, there are three terminals on the solenoid. The top one goes to the battery, the [small] middle on goes to the starter button and the bottom one goes to the starter. On '89 and later FLH models there are only two terminals on the unitized starter/solenoid assembly. The larger one on top goes to the battery and the small one on the right side goes to the starter relay.
There's a clutch on the starter that acts like a Bendix gear on a car. This clutch is stripped out on your bike. You'll need to pull the starter to replace it.
