According to Wikipedia itself, the term "East Africa" is used to refer to the area of the African continent that now comprises Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda and in a wider sense, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea (these last three also referred to as the Horn of Africa) and Sudan.

East Africa is exactly that, the East coast of the African continent.

It normally refers to the coastline from the Horn of Africa and southwards to the coast of Mozambique (although the east coast of South Africa and Transkei are technically included). Portions above the Horn of Africa generally get included into "North Africa" just as the east coast of South Africa is sometimes lumped into "Southern Africa".

The East Coast of Africa is bordered by the Indian ocean.
