USA is a richer nation than Canada.Canada is richer per person than the USA. Canada has way more resources and less debt. Canada also has lower taxes. Self employed people in the USA pay "self employment" tax of 17,000k on the first 100k of income (then federal taxes, state taxes, local taxes, etc.). Canada has comparable federal tax rates (though higher provincial taxes vs. state taxes), but nothing like the 17k self employment tax. Canada is doing better in all three areas. Canada has many raw resources the world wants. The USA not so much. It is unfortunate because the USA had a lock on Canada's resources. They could have used them to continue growing but instead entered into global trade agreements that gave away their advantages and Canadian resources.
