Star Wars Chocolate or vanilla? The answer depends on YOU! I like Star Wars, but Star Trek appeals to me a little more. It doesn't make me right or the previous answer wrong. It is all a matter of preference. Watch them both, and decide which one you want.
It could change from day to day. Maybe you could qualify the question with something measurable. Like ticket sales. I like them both. The competition between fans can be as viscious as sports fans, but it's really funny if you think about it. The people in charge of both work extra hard to keep actors from crossing over, but not so hard in the background. They often use the same special effects companies, and benefit from eachother's technology, when some equipment needs to be invented to film a certain scene. There was a scene in Star Trek where Spock has the same experience as Ben Kenobi, when a host of people die far away. The company making Star Trek toys went out of business after passing up the chance to make Star Wars ones. For many years Star Trek stuff was rare and expensive, while Star Wars went on. They both fizzled out for merchandise in the last half of the eighties. Then it picked up again as the 90s started. Now you don't see much Star Trek stuff anymore, and then they make toys for that new movie. They're all too expensive right now though.
It is a spoof on Star Trek, and it's enormous fan base.
