The conquest was only getting in town for all the Babylonians to receive him with open arms. There was no fight. Under his rule, the empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East, expanded vastly and eventually conquered most of Southwest Asia and much of Central Asia and the Caucasus. At the time of Babylon, his army worked a detour of the river so they could walk in a waist deep river and the Babylonians received him. He worked two edicts described in The Bible as being made by Cyrus the Great left a lasting legacy on the Jewish religion where because of his policies in Babylonia, and one of them was to let the Jewish go back to Israel and build the temple back again.
Cyrus showing so much wisdom lead Babylon to accept him as their ruler.
King Hammurabi conquered the neighboor provinces and made the Babylonian Empire.
Cyrus the Great. - 'Thus saith Cyrus, king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth hath Yahweh, the God of heaven, given me; and He hath charged me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whosoever there is among you of all His people may Yahweh, his God, be with him and let him go there.' (2 Chronicles 36:23)
They conquered the cities of Sumer, united them, and created Babylonia. The king of Babylonia (Hammurabi) conquered land all the way to Turkey (in his time, Turkey was known as Asia Minor). Because of Babylon's location, caravans, or groups of travelers, kept on traveling to and from cities of Sumer. People bought supplies, such as cotton cloth and spices, from bazaars, or markets. Hammurabi also conquered the city of Mari, and took all their chariots, weapons, and tools. Babylonia invented the pottery wheel, basic math, agriculture, sculpture making, and were the first to begin studying astronomy.
Based on the archaeological evidence Babylon was conquered and renewed itself several times. Conquerors included the Assyrians, the Chaldeans, Persia, the Greeks, Persia (again) and finally the Arabs. At present American forces following the 2003 invasion of Iraq and Baghdad have once again "conquered" Babylon. Probably the most famous conquest of Babylon was by Alexander The Great.
