Louis Riel was the reason Manitoba was created. The metis were being treated unfairly so Louis Riel made a petition to make this happen and surprisingly it happened. Although it couldn't just happen instantly, it took alot of courage to make this happen, you needed to get a petition started and create a list of rights for the province and the people that will live in it like all provinces. Although it wasn't a very big piece of land, the metis and other people still appreciated it.

He stood up against the colonisation of the West by Canada, forced Canada to agree to many things (they later ignored) and helped Canada's colonies get provincial status earlier than they might have otherwise, in particular Manitoba. Then Canada killed him and have followed it up with an anti-Riel Propaganda campaign that continues to this day.

Riel was from Manitoba, fought for the rights of the locals, died for the cause, has been vilified ever since by Canada, and lionized as a great martyr by those with the deep historical roots in Western Canada.
