The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. The United States armed forces were at their highest state of readiness ever and Soviet field commanders in Cuba were prepared to use battlefield nuclear weapons to defend the island if it was invaded. Because of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Castro wanted to start nuclear war because he believed that the US would nuke him first. So Fidel wrote a letter to Nikita Sergeyevich Krushchev that basically said that if there was going to be a nuclear war, Russia should launch their missiles first. Luckily Krushchev didnt agree with him (that was the Cuban Missile crisis), and everyone thought he was insane for wanting to start nuclear war.

What is the connection between the domino theory and the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Long story short, It all happened with the Bay of Pigs fiasco to remove Castro from power by using anti-Castro refugees to stage a revolt but it failed. Later a U-2 captured photos of Soviet missiles bases in Cuba but in a larger sense. Kennedy declared a naval blockade on Cuba and pressed Khruschev to take the nukes from Cuba but He refused. Kennedy mobilized the military for a possible invasion of Cuba. He probably knew the Soviets would fire its warheads from Cuba to hit Washington, New York, And Miami, etc. Also start a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. On October 27th, Khruschev agreed to take the missiles from Cuba in secret they did it if Kennedy took the missiles from Turkey pointed at the USSR.

Did the US really start the Cuban Missile Crisis?

That's a "chicken or the egg" question. The events began to unfold when it was discovered the Soviets had built missile launching sites in Cuba. Then a Soviet freighter was discovered steaming to Cuba with what appeared to missiles on deck. Only then, did the US decided to set up a blockade to stop the freighter's arrival, which precipitated the show down between Kennedy and Kruschev. So I would say the Soviets started it.

Why was the Cuban Missile Crisis so frightening?
