My dogs are always pestering toads out in the yard, and it usually results in frothing at the mouth and shaking the head. Toads have a very bitter taste, but it is usually harmless. Some species of toads can be highly toxic, however, so familiarize yourself what the toad species in your area. Maybe you should also ask how you can treat a dog that has licked a toad and not just say TAKE IT TO THE VET!!! this annoys me, what if you live out of town and the vet is too far away, or worse, you cant afford to take it. Many dogs die because these answers are not answered properly on the internet. Obviously you are a dog lover as you responded to this question, so take a stand against this internet scandal and do something about it!!!! Officially annoyed.

A large dog, I would think not. It would just intoxicate them. But if a small dog licked a frog or toad for a long amount of time, they could possibly become poisoned by the frog's defense chemicals. If the dog is still acting weird after an entire day, take him to a vet.Yes this could happen...But I think it doesn't matter wether the dog is small or large but it could still 'posion' them...Whatever the size.I sugest that you don't let your dogslick toad's that are in a road.If it does just wash it's mouth out.Beckie14--
If your dog licks a cane toad he/she will deliver major amounts of froth and suliver from the mouth and usually will start twitching his/her face, sometimes even turn its head to either side and freeze looking straight ahead (when my dog did that I thought he had died, that's how frozen they are.) This procedure usually lasts between 1/2 and hour to a full hour depending on how much your pooch has licked or bitten the toad it can even be fatal. I hope I helped :)
