* Have a set time for homework every day * If the child's grades are low, the bedroom should not be a distracting place - no TV, no computer hooked up to the internet, no Video Games - all that should be in a common area where you can easily monitor play time * Help your child with homework without doing the work for them - show them the way that problems should be done, but make it their responsibility to finish the work * Have a calendar clearly showing due dates of assignments and make sure that the child is on track * Keep in contact with teachers so that you are aware of major assignments and your child's progress * Have the child keep a homework notebook - each assignment is written in one place instead of scattered around, and you will know what is due for each class * Do not place so much pressure on the child to make all A's - so long as they are putting good effort into their work, you should allow them room not to be great students. Self-esteem is just as important as good grades!
