Jane Addams was a collage student, and was earning her bachelor's degree at about 1887. While traveling on a trip to Europe with her friend Ellen G. Starr, she saw a settlement house in London. Her and Miss Starr decided to open one in America. They soon leased a home in 1889, that was built by Charles Hull. They named it the Hull House. They made speeches about the neighborhood, raised money, convinced young women of well families to help, took care of children, and nursed the sick. When World War 1 started, she convinced Herbert Hoover to send important necessities such as; foods, drinks, clothes, etc. And made peace lectures to stop war. Meanwhile after, she suffered a severe heart attack, and was being moved to a different hospital when she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1931. She soon died in 1935, and her funeral was in the courtyard of the Hull House. She made aBIGdifference.
