Cape Town was not established by the "boers". The modern city of Cape Town can be deemed to have been established by the Dutch East India Company who sent Jan van Riebeeck and a small group of people in three ships to establish a victualling post so that ships of the Dutch East India Company could obtain fresh fruit and vegetables and meat while rounding the Cape on their way to the east.

The term "boers" came about because many of the Dutch settlers became farmers (boer is the dutch word for Farmer) and left the Cape to escape the expansionary aims of the British were seized possession of the Cape Colony from the Dutch.
