THIS COULD BE A BAD WIRE OR ALSO A BAD CONNECTION FROM COROSION INSIDE THE SOCKET THAT THE BULB FITS INTO. CHECK IT OUT FIRST AND CLEAN ANY THAT IS THERE BY GENTLY SCRATCHING IT OFF. ONE OF THE SOCKETS MIGHT ALSO BE BAD AND THAT MAY KEEP BOTH BREAK LIGHTS FROM WORKING. ALSO DO RESEARCH ONLINE AND YOU MAKE FIND OTHER THINGS THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE I WAS ABLE TO HELP A LIL BIT. JEAN
I have a 79 ford chatou 12 seater van. everything works the bulbs are good but the brake lights wont turn on when I step on the pedal. whats up? if its my brake switch should I change it out? or can it be fixed also which fuse is my brake lights? wouldn't the lights all be on one fuse? If memory serves me right, each tail light assembly has a printed circuit board that the bulbs plug into. That circuit board burns out. That part is available from the Chevy dealer.
Check fuses and bulbs first - either could be breaking the circuit and casuing the problem. See sources and related links below for bulb informtion. The brake switch is usually up underneith the dash near/connected to the brake pedal.
There should be a switch located on the shaft that the brake pedal is attached to. Check the wiring and listen for a click when the brake is depressed. If everything seems okay, use a wire to jump across the two contacts and see if the brake lights go on. If this fails, then you have a broken wire somewhere in your brake light circuit. Good luck.
Replace the bulbs in the high-mount brake light. Most likely they're all burnt out. I had the same problem, and that fixed it. Cost: $15.00 for the bulbs. See sources and related links below for bulb information.
fuse, bulbs
AnswerThe bulbs for the brake lights are usually separate from the normal tail light bulbs. Check and replace the brake bulbs first, and if they are still not working examine the fuses, switch and wiring.
Check bulbs, fuses and brake switch in that order.
Possible bad switch on the brake pedal? When you push on the brake pedal, it activates a switch, that switch turns on your brake lights. If the bulbs and fuses are ok, check the switch with an ohmeter.
you do not adjust the brake lights check the bulbs or check switch top of brake pedal.
Type your answer here... Why are you wanting to rewire the brake lights?
Bad bulbs or brake light switch.
Check the fuse, the bulbs, and the brake light switch.
The brake lights and tail lights are separate wiring systems. Even some of the bulbs may have two separate bulbs in the same glass housing. If the bulbs are in fact working, then the next step would be to test the brake switch under the dash. When you depress the brake pedal the switch is pushed creating a connection to turn on the brake lights.
Check all the fuses. If not bulbs or switch that's all that it can be,
Check the brake light fuse, the bulbs, the brake light switch and last, check the signal switch.
it maybe the brake switch
