THIS COULD BE A BAD WIRE OR ALSO A BAD CONNECTION FROM COROSION INSIDE THE SOCKET THAT THE BULB FITS INTO. CHECK IT OUT FIRST AND CLEAN ANY THAT IS THERE BY GENTLY SCRATCHING IT OFF. ONE OF THE SOCKETS MIGHT ALSO BE BAD AND THAT MAY KEEP BOTH BREAK LIGHTS FROM WORKING. ALSO DO RESEARCH ONLINE AND YOU MAKE FIND OTHER THINGS THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. After replacing the fuses bulbs and brake light switch the tail and brake lights work and then fuse blows 97 Chevy PU?
If memory serves me right, each tail light assembly has a printed circuit board that the bulbs plug into. That circuit board burns out. That part is available from the Chevy dealer.

There should be a switch located on the shaft that the brake pedal is attached to. Check the wiring and listen for a click when the brake is depressed.
