Joe Lieberman is classified as a Independent. He was registered as a Democrat from 1989-2006. In 2006, the Connecticut Democratic party selected a different candidate for senator. Lieberman ran as an independent. He has supported Republican George W. Bush's policies throughout the Iraq War and campaigned with Republican John McCain during his run for President in 2008.
